- Sep 13, 2020
Kannada actress Ragini Dwivedi's bail hearing, which was supposed to happen today, has been postponed to September 14. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru recently arrested Ragini Dwivedi in connection with Kannada film industry's ongoing drug racket case. Ragini has been under CCB custody for almost 8 days now and was hoping to be out on bail today.
However, now, the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) special court in Bengaluru has adjourned the hearing of Ragini’s bail petition to next Monday (September 14). Ragini's family was expecting her to be freed from the custody of CCB today. The CCB officials said that they are yet to complete the investigation.
On September 10, the CCB officials accessed chats between two accused, Ravi Shankar (close friend of Ragini Dwivedi) and Prashanth Ranka. The remand report suggests that Ragini Dwivedi and the rest of the accused took drugs in farmhouse parties and concerts. Also, they have found out that drugs were procured from other states.
On June 16, 2019, Ravi Shankar had sent a text from his number to peddler Loom Pepper (Nigerian origin), which read, "Get a very very good stuff." Another message read, "2G celebrity stuff."
On April 12, 2020, Ravi Shankar once again contacted peddler Pepper. His message read, "Gave me less than 1 gram."
In the first week of September, Additional Commissioner Sandeep Patil revealed that they have nabbed another accused named Niyaz in connection with the Sandalwood drug racket case. Niyaz hails from Kerala, but he has been living in Bengaluru for five years now.
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested seven people out of the 12 accused. Ragini Dwivedi, Niyaz, Ravi, Shankar, Rahul, Viren Khanna, Loom Pepper and Prateek Shetty have been arrested so far by the CCB.
