NEW DELHI: In a special drive conducted between December 24 and 29, a total of 20,665 vehicles were prosecuted for improper parking, driving without a PUC certificate, driving without a helmet, triple riding and other offences in south Delhi areas. Officials said this was the highest number of offences registered in a week this year.

DCP South (traffic) Surendra Choudhary said the drive, which is likely to continue, yielded fruitful results and ensured smooth flow of traffic in the stretches of major corridors.

A total of 10,414 vehicles were prosecuted for improper and obstructive parking. Out of this, 4,851 vehicles were prosecuted on the spot for improper parking, 927 were towed away by traffic cranes and 5,563 notices issued through VOCA (violation on camera app) to the registered owners of the vehicles found parked improperly.

“Delhi Traffic Police is committed to ensuring smooth and safe flow of traffic on city roads. Public should follow the traffic discipline and not park their vehicles on the roads obstructively. Special teams will be deployed during the late-night hours for conducting anti-drunken drive and for keeping a check on the traffic violators on the New Year’s Eve,” added the officer.
