An 18-year-old NEET aspirant killed herself in Madurai a day before the exam. In a suicide note, she has written about fearing failure in the exam.
Another NEET aspirant has taken her life a day before the medical entrance examination is scheduled. In Madurai, an 18-year-old girl died by suicide on Saturday. In a long suicide note, she has talked about fearing to fail in the exam and not getting a seat.
Jyoti Durga, daughter of sub-inspector Muruga Sundaram, killed herself in Madurai after being concerned about her performance in the entrance exam.
Jyoti Durga had not been able to clear the NEET exam last year and had waited for a year to try again this year. On Friday night, she is said to have discussed with her father her concerns about the exam and how she might fare this time around.
In a long letter that has been found in her book, Jyoti Durga has written to her family not to blame themselves and that she is taking this extreme measure out of a fear of failing the exams and not being able to get a seat.
She had a habit of sitting late in the night to prepare for her exams. While the family assumed that Jyoti Durga was preparing for her exams, she hung herself to death.
Early on Saturday morning when her parents knocked on the door to give her tea, they found the door locked. The family broke into her room to find her hanging from the ceiling fan.
Local police have sent Jyoti Durga’s body for postmortem and an investigation into the case is now being conducted.
Jyoti Durga has written in her letter that her family has a lot of expectations from her and “if I don’t get seat in college all of your hard work will go in vain”. She has written messages for her brother, father, friends and relatives.
The state government and opposition parties have been objecting to holding the NEET and JEE Mains during the pandemic. Recently two other cases of suicide by students have been linked to the NEET in Tamil Nadu.
